What were you designed to do?
The 1973 Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS is widely considered one of the greatest sports cars of the 1970s.
The Carrera RS 2.7 was conceived as a 911-derived race car and was the first production street/race 911 widely offered to the public.
At the time, it was the fastest German car in production.
It’s literally a race car for the road.
To get a feel for how truly spectacular this car was/is, check out “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” with Porsche aficionado Jerry Seinfeld.
He waxes poetic about it, perhaps more than any other car outside of his 2005 Porsche Carrera GT.
It was and is a driver’s car designed to enthrall, inspire, and connect the driver to the road.
Now imagine driving the Carrera RS on roads where the speed limit never exceeds 25 mph and is dead straight for hundreds of miles. Imagine never taking this rocket for the road to a track to stretch its legs.
It seems odd, doesn’t it?
It would be like using a Wusthof chef’s knife to break down cardboard boxes.
It would be like buying a Patek Phillipe and never setting the time.
It would be like dining at La Bernadin and ordering only water.
So why are you doing the same with what matters most in this world?
Your life.
Do you believe you were born to stare at a spreadsheet all day? To sit in meaningless meeting after meeting? To outpolitic Tom for the promotion? To acquire shiny new object after shiny new object?
The Carrera RS is a race car.
The Wusthof is a precision knife.
La Bernadin is one of the best restaurants in the world.
The Patek is one of the finest timepieces in timepieces in the world.
What about you?
What’s your essence? What’s your truest self?
What do you believe you were put on this planet to do?
Because here’s the thing:
When someone does what they’re meant to do, it creates awe and wonder.
It’s a thing of beauty.
If this weren’t true, museums wouldn’t exist.
When you tap into your truest self and then express that version of yourself to the world, your life becomes a thing of awe, wonder, and beauty.
You do this by fulfilling your calling.
The question is, will you confine yourself to 25 mph?
Settling for just enough, or will you take yourself to the Autobahn and do what you were born to do?
Because if you desire purpose, meaning, fulfillment, freedom, and peace, you won’t find them if you’re confined to your self-imposed speed limits.
